King Salmon (Chinook) Fishing Rating: Decent to Really Good. If you fish the Parks Highway during king salmon season, and are interested in taking a jet boat taxi ride up the Talkeetna River to fish Clear Creek, you should not be disappointed. A short one-half mile hike up Clear Creek provides excellent opportunities for sight fishing for king salmon. Fishing Techniques for king salmon in Clear Creek include traditional drift fishing, casting spinners and spoons, and fishing flies. Drift fishing flies or traditional fly-fishing is the most effective technique for sight fishing.
Silver Samon (Coho) Fishing Rating: Decent to Good.During the silver salmon season, Clear Creek is a good place to fish. Fishing Techniques for silvers at Clear Creek: Spinners and spoons, flies, and fishing eggs.
Red Salmon (Sockeye) Fishing Rating: Decent. Clear Creek offers sockeye fishing in Late July/Early August. Fishing Techniques for sockeye salmon at Creek. Drifting yarn flies, or other sockeye salmon flies.
Pink Samon Fishing Rating: Decent to Good. During even numbered years ie., (2008, 2010, 2012) pinks can be fun at Clear Creek. Fishing Techniques for pink salmon at Clear Creek: Casting spinners and spoons such as pixies, blue fox, or vibrax is the most effective technique for pinks.
Chum Salmon Fishing Rating: Decent to Good. Chum salmon are present in fair numbers (during the peak of the runs) at Clear Creek. Fishing Techniques for chum at Clear Creek: Small flies and eggs are the most effective techniques. Some chum are also caught using spinners and spoons.
Rainbow Trout Fishing Rating: Decent to Good. Rainbows are present in Clear Creek year round, but the best fishing occurs in June and July and again in September and October.
Grayling Fishing Rating: Decent to Good. Grayling are present in Clear Creek year round, but the best fishing is in June.
